With so many Canned Heat collections existing, Far Out () stands as one of the more interesting, as it consisted primarily of gray-area material taken from Live at the Topanga Corral () [aka Live at the Kaleidoscope ()] and Vintage (). Both long-players were marred by somewhat sonically challenged audio from the band when they were still motivated by authentic R&B rather 7/

  2. A huge hit for Canned Heat in the Woodstock summer of , "Going Up the Country" fit the pre-Manson bucolic hippie summer like a glove. Based on an old and very obscure blues song (the bandmembers collectively were notoriously great record collectors), resident musical arranger Al Wilson cleverly arranged this with a very simple flute and light electric rhythm guitar (played by Henry Vestine).

  5. The album is expanded by the addition of their hit "Let's Work Together" (in true stereo), which essentially makes this collection a best of Canned Heat. The album also features the Top 20 hits, "On The Road Again" and "Going Up The Country", which was also featured in the Woodstock movie and soundtrack album.5/5(7).

  6. Canned Heat were clearly a blues, boogie, and rock band, with foray's into psychedelia being few and far between. Their mystique and 'connection' to the counterculture have much more to do with 'Going Up the Country' being tapped as the title song for the movie 'Woodstock', and the drug-driven demise of /5(2).
